What to bring
What Texas courts usually ask for when you open an estate with a will. Your county may ask for a little more or less, so check with the clerk first.
- An application to probate the will, filed in the court that handles probate in the county.
- A licensed attorney: the court says a non-lawyer generally may not file the application for someone else.
- After the will is admitted, the court issues letters testamentary, which banks usually ask for along with a death certificate.
